Hypoxyphilia
Term
Description
Hypoxyphilia (or hypoxic fetishism) is an erotic practice or paraphilia involving sexual arousal through the deliberate restriction of oxygen supply, often achieved via strangulation, suffocation, or chest compression. Commonly referred to as asphyxiation play, this practice is highly dangerous due to significant risks of fatal accidents (loss of consciousness, brain damage, or death). It differs from consensual and controlled breath play practiced in certain BDSM contexts with strict safety measures. Hypoxyphilia often stems from a fetishistic attraction to feelings of vulnerability, submission, or the physiological "high" induced by oxygen deprivation.
